Due to a terrible plumbing problem in our house, I wasn't able to make the boleadoras this afternoon. But I did finalize the rules of the game (Lasso Ball).
- Players kick a rugby ball around
- Players try to snare the ball in their boleadoras
- The team who first snares the ball must attack, the other, defend
- The team who wraps the snared ball around a 7' end post wins a point
- Then the game restarts
Strategy can be divided into 4 main plays:
- Low balls
- High balls
- Far balls
- Near balls
Equipment consists of 2 boleadoras per player. Each 'bolas' for short, can be made of simple cheap rope and lashed on sandbags (2 round and 1 grip-sized). In that sense, it is a pretty cheap sport to aspire to and a lot of fun. The football may be any old cheap ball lying around that's not too light.
Fouls:
- A boleadoras may not be thrown at a player at or over knee level
- A boleadoras may not be thrown at a ball at or under head level
- Lasso Ball is not a contact sport. No player contact is allowed within reason
- Players may not handle the football (rugby ball)
