Fun game with foam football…

an Aerobie football

This is a loose rugby-style game for 7-ish people a side on any sizable pitch. The objectives are:

  1. To keep the ball roughly behind at least 2 friendly players at all times. Tackling is not permitted but players may obstruct and gently handle one another by the elbows and shoulders.
  2. The 2 or more players and a ball holder must cross the enemy back line wherever it may occur to win a point. The enemy may create multiple layers for the ball  possessors to punch through.
  3. The ball may be thrown or bounced off the pitch. There is no penalty for dropped balls. First touch wins it and it may also be kicked
  4. The ball used may be an Aerobie foam football or any soft aerodynamic foam ball.
More later…

Thinking about Breach Rugby (versus beach rugby), I can forsee a lot of soccer style formation and maneuvering. For example, letting players run unchecked through your formation. You have to mark them. And pushing the ball holder horizontally away from his advance line, separating the attacking formation. Forming  a saw or zig zag, forming a passing around square, the long kick or throw, there is a lot of play possible.

Thoughts on the etiquette of tackling. Players should not raise a foot above an enemy's knee, or a palm above his neck. Players must not touch a ball possessor’s grip (on the ball). Fouls must be called out, including offsides.
