Review: Rockbros 10142-Photochromic shades….

Having worn these shades / sunglasses for a day now, here in tropical Malaysia, I can say that they do turn dark in sunlight, and are not a cheap Chinese gimmick tho they were marked down to $11 / 48RM on Shopee. What they seem to try to do is cut glare without darkening the view. So very bright days will still be bright, just not painfully bright.

Style wise, complete fail on my face. They shoulda made the entire frame transparent or smoke, instead of bright white. They are comfy tho, and I use them with the supplied headband / lanyard with no discomfort. I also liked the peripheral protection afforded by the side winged lenses which unfortunately are not polarized which you can get from Rockbros for not much more. May be a better buy in the long run?

I couldn’t figure out how to put the glasses back into their hard case. Amazing little puzzle, like refolding a NatGeo map. So my Oakleys go to Dad who needs to drive a lot. Photochromic lenses some don’t darken behind windshields. Hope he takes care of them. I fitted his with a lanyard so he will not lose them or scratch them up. YOLO, baby.

Relaxing in aircond. Wrote a short Medium article. Mom is feeling weak again. Bought her a big wooly shawl to keep her warm. Just 20RM, for her birthday in circa 2 weeks. Will add more to my novel outline before bed. Brush.

True test of my new Rockbros will be an hour or two walk in the tropical sun. There is a very glaring squint-inducing expanse of concrete near the hotel strip which I would like to view thru the photochromics. The downside of light sensitives is they don’t hide your eyes or have nice color gradients (mostly).

Some kind of ghost town effect here in PJ today. Not many cars or people out. Felt lonely. As promised, I walked less and made it home quicker. The polychromic sunglasses were easier on my nose as they don’t bruise me as much as my Oakleys used to. But there is a side effect, imho, that without them on, indoors, in the sunny afternoon, I feel a wee bit of eye strain. Eyes get used to the calming effect and expect it all the time?
