Buying watches sensiby, if I could start anew…

Last night I did some strap swapping among my collection of currently 16 watches. Having over a dozen affordable and cheap pieces, bought on a whim, it all just doesn’t feel right. If I could start fresh what would I have done?

I would start with 2 watches, first a Casio 800h. It makes a lot of sense with its 10 year battery, full time-calendar display, thicker case, and 100m WR. Cost, about $20. Then I would buy a 39mm Bambino circa $200 with angpow money. Saving up, I would eventually afford a GS quartz magnetic resist, circa $2.7k.

L-R: Grand Seiko, Orient Bambino, Casio 800h

While saving for my GS, I can enjoy the classic Bambino automatic and with my bare bones 800h, escape the G-Shock price:variety trap. Once you start on those, you can’t easily stop. Putting away $50ish a month, it would take me 4 years to afford the GS. If I were 25 when I began, I would be 29 with my very own tough quartz Grand Seiko! Last a lifetime and put a stopper in wasting money on further watches.

What then should I do about my current watch collection? Currently I already own an Orient (Tristar) automatic and the 800h, but am middle aged and semi retired.

I can’t save enough for that GS, nor foreseeably live another 4 years with my brain damaged and under attack daily. Not to mention it’s hard to make a living in these evil endtimes. I have accumulated 900RM, enough for emergencies. Plus $100 in my wallet. We’ll have to see about ever owning a luxury timepiece…

Made lunch for myself. Poached egg with lettuce on vegan ramen and a bacon and cheese sandwich. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, not to mention this morning’s workout and run. Did good work in mindspace, shuffling people around so the evil can’t latch and target young ones and important people. Now to code and maybe earn some money soon.

Meanwhile I’m wearing my rectangular all black Casio MQ-27 on dark blue Bonetti faux croc. Looks very nice. May buy myself a Suunto smartwatch circa 1.2kRM unless I’m raptured before June or all hell breaks loose from all those wars and threats. Thinking 5-6kRM if I get a traditional watch…

The MQ-27 is my cheapest watch, circa 50RM bought new from an AD, tho the aftermarket strap cost over 70RM.
