My new ocarina (replacement)…

It arrived, just 2 days after I ordered it all the way from Johor. Quite fond of it. I like that it’s plastic and yet has a full bodied tone. Surprise, I like the way some holes blow harder than others, forcing me to use more air. It makes the sound more organic than my old ceramic. I can do my usual half-holing albeit with a modicum of extra concentration. Also a good idea so I can intonate those turns in the melody. All in all, a good buy for under 30RM. Less than $7.

The weight and feel of the ABS plastic is pleasant to touch and hold, as is knowing it can survive drops (to a much higher degree). Ironically it is my cheapest, humblest musical instrument, and the one I will take with me on travels and outings.

"What's his instrument?"

"A $7 plastic ocarina"

It's cool to play a cheap ocarina. I once had a stubby C DiZi with no bindings and it had excellent character. Too bad it dropped and split. Got it from a flea market mall seller for 25RM. Wish I still had it.

Tonight, will be coding Tell. Want to solve the bugs before bed if possible.

Browsing Shopee, you can find even cheaper instruments like a Yamaha school student recorder for half the price of this ocarina. I guess they are popular and commonly purchased. I should play a recorder if I were principled, but that, for me, is a little scary to learn.
